Eden Green Technology (Eden Green), a next-generation indoor vertical farming company, has officially announced the launch of its flagship herb program, which makes it the first ever company to grow, package, and ship a full herb suite out of a single facility. According to certain reports, the stated program will leverage Eden Green’s patented microclimate technology and networked distribution model to improve logistics, reduce environmental impact, and increase access to fresh affordable herbs. Talk about company’s microclimate technology for a second, it involves creating microclimates for each plant, along with an individualized, highly customizable environment localized to a specific plant. As a result, each plant’s roots receive a precise nutrient mix every 90 seconds through a controlled temperature and filtered closed loop water system. Making the whole arrangement even better is a responsive air control for oxygen and carbon dioxide that allows temperature and humidity within the microclimate to be adjusted in seconds. Talk about the kind of actionable benefits that such a technology can fetch, they begin from the chance to facilitate multi-crop cultivation. You see, given the microclimates act as a personalized incubator for each plant, Eden Green’s proprietary technology has proven itself as capable of growing up to 200+ products in one single vertical farm. Next up, there is a possibility to achieve greater efficiency in exchange of minimal to no waste. The technology realizes that by managing only the climate around each individual plant, something which enables precise control over resources being utilized and saves energy, water and nutrients. Markedly enough, the system also conceives for you a chance to realize faster and higher quality harvests. Again leveraging individualized nutrients and environmental conditions, Eden’s technology is able to cut out various unnecessary parts in the process, and that in turn, does a lot to deliver shorter agricultural timelines and faster harvests.
“Until now, the agricultural industry relied upon aggregators piecing together different herb crops from around the world to deliver fresh, affordable, and high-quality produce year-round. Innovative approaches are necessary to keep up with growing demand, particularly with complex programs like herbs,” said Eddy Badrina, CEO of Eden Green. “Our grow system is the only solution capable of supplying an entire herb program out of a single facility. We believe this process is the key to delivering fresh, high-quality produce sustainably and at an affordable price.”
Apart from helping you optimize resources, Eden’s new program will also make a point to simplify supply chain logistics. You see, under usual circumstances, sourcing a complete suite of herbs would require you to connect with multiple distributors and international importation. In case that wasn’t problematic enough, it also sets up a process where herbs spend most of their shelf-life in transportation, undergoing repeated packaging. Eden gets past that bottleneck by growing and packaging all major herb varieties in a single vertical greenhouse. To go with that, it also strategically chooses locations which are within miles of major distribution centers, meaning the company can transport herbs from farm to shelf in no more than 48 hours.
As a part of the program in question, Eden is looking to grow over 10 herb varieties, including basil, cilantro, chives, dill, mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage and thyme. On an average, one facility will produce 350,000-400,000 pounds of fresh, sustainable herbs a year. Once produced, these herbs will then make their way to some of the largest retailers and food service companies in the U.S. through the company’s exclusive distributor, Robinson Fresh.
