Perfect Day, the leading precision fermentation innovator and supplier, has officially announced a partnership with Unilever’s Breyers brand to launch a brand new Breyers Lactose-Free Chocolate. According to certain reports, the stated chocolate will come with Perfect Day’s dairy protein, which happens to be a by-product of the company’s unique take on fermentation. You see, Perfect Day leverages a decades-old process of precision fermentation to create its highly functional whey protein alternative that offers the same indulgent experience preferred by consumers, but it does so without using lactose at any point throughout the process. Furthermore, it also has a significantly reduced carbon footprint than many of its counterparts. To give you a deeper lowdown on Perfect Day’s protein, we can look at an ISO-compliant third-party reviewed life cycle assessment (LCA) conducted on the component. Going by the available details, the LCA discovered that the process followed to make the protein in question actually reduces blue water consumption by up to 99%, greenhouse gas emissions by up to 97%, and non-renewable energy use by up to 60%, when compared to traditional production methods. Using that proven ability to preach better environment prospects, Perfect Day will now look to make the concept of frozen indulgence sustainable. However, not just the environment, the new Breyers Chocolate also gives a thought to your health. This basically means that, alongside being lactose-free, the product in question is also made to be 100 percent cholesterol-free.
“We are thrilled to have developed this new product with Unilever, a hallmark example of how our second decade is focused on driving growth through collaboration with leading companies that share our mission of a kinder, greener tomorrow,” said TM Narayan, Chief Executive Officer of Perfect Day. “We’re inspired to see that more companies are turning to precision fermentation as a no compromise option to continue to maintain their leadership position as consumer demands evolve for the future of our planet.”
Founded in 2014, Perfect Day has made a name for itself by introducing a whey protein alternative which, instead of relying on cows, is made using microflora. Still delivering the same taste and texture, though, the protein is currently being used to make a range of products, including cream cheese, barista milk, ice cream, protein powder, egg replacer, bakery mix, confectionery, and gelato etc. In case you need further validation for the company’s credentials, then all we have to do is to look at its partner line-up, which currently consists of industry leaders, such as Mars, Nestlé, Natreve, Brave Robot, Myprotein, Strive Nutrition, Nick’s, Tomorrow Farms, Villa Dolce, Betterland, and more.
As for Unilever, founded in 1872, the company has today reached a point where its portfolio boasts everything from home care products and FMCG items to personal care products and luxury products. Currently, Unilever is present in more than 190 countries, with over 3.4 billion people using its products every day.
“The launch of Breyers Lactose-Free Chocolate with animal-free dairy is an exciting and innovative addition to Breyers’ growing better-for-you portfolio,” said Lisa Vortsman, Chief Marketing Officer for Unilever Ice Cream North America. “As we’ve seen demand for alternative ice creams continue to grow, it is important to us to provide Breyers fans with frozen treats that meet their dietary needs and preferences, without compromising on the creamy taste and flavor that Breyers has offered for more than 150 years.”
